Sensitive after root canel..crown in april

New postby MissWendy on Thu Jan 21, 2010 6:34 pm

I had a root canal back in November but just before Christmas some of the filling came out. It was sensitive to eat and finally got to the dentist this weds just gone. All she did was re-fill the tooth but its still sensitive to the point where I have to take paracetamol. Is there something wrong? My dentist is sh*t. she never tells me whats going on or why. I don't even know exactly when my appointment for the crown is. Just heard her mumble April and then didn't give me an appointment card. So gotta call up about that.

Anyway back to the question. Was the root canal done properly? Why is it still sensitive. Surely it shouldn't hurt before having the crown or there will be problems after its on right?

There could be a problem with the root canal or possible a high bite on the filling that's in there right now. Some people who are grinders/clenchers can have lingering problems with root canaled teeth if the new filling is left slightly high. The extra pressure on the tooth interferes with the healing process after the root canal, and the pain continues.

If you're not happy with your dentist you could have the tooth checked out by someone else to see what they think. It might be prudent to take care of the sensitivity problem before placing a final crown on the tooth.
